Launching with two episodes in 240 counties and territories worldwide on September 1, JD Payne & Patrick McKay co-created Rings of Power drew more than 25 million viewers on the first day, according to founder Jeff Bezos. Taking place thousands of years before Tolkien’s stories of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, The Rings of Power transports fans young and old back to Middle Earth and the peaceful time of the Second Age…well, it seems peaceful at first. The eight-episode first season will run until October 14. However, there are many more Rings of Power to come. When Prime Video acquired the rights from the Tolkien estate in 2017 for a reported $250 million, the streamer committed to a five-season run. The big budget Season 1 was filmed in New Zealand, where Peter Jackson made his Oscar-winning trilogy. Season 2 has seen the show move to the UK, with production starting there. You can catch all things LOTR in Deadline’s new video series Inside the Ring: The LOTR: The Rings of Power after the show – which released its first episode today.
