Cyclist John, from Co Cork, Ireland, caught the incident on camera and the video has divided opinion online. 1 A cyclist was hit by a car while passing a driver who showed a delay Credit: Twitter/@righttobikeit The clip begins with John filtering through a crowd of vehicles. But as he approaches a gas station, a car points and immediately turns left into John’s path. Fortunately, John managed to break in time – and was uninjured despite hitting the car’s rear view mirror. In the video, Giannis can be heard exclaiming: “You can’t just put the indicator on and turn off the road like that. “You need to check your mirrors.” The driver simply replied, “Sorry lad.” When John uploaded the video to his Twitter page, Righttobikeit, he faced backlash from motorists. One person wrote: “Another cyclist who is a menace to himself and others and needs to learn to ride a bike.” A second said: “Cyclist overtakes car at inappropriate speed and complains they got his lycra dirty.” While a third explained: “Normally I’m totally with you but I’m not sure about this. “I can’t see a bike lane (is there one?), they indicate (it’s a given that all this indicates a working light bulb) and you pass on the left. “You’re risking your life a lot doing this, being right is cold comfort in my opinion.” But John fought back and explained that he was actually right. He said: “I filter left which is legal. All forward traffic has priority over traffic leaving the lane. “The driver should have signaled much earlier and checked his mirror before turning. By the way, there is no bike lane.’
