Photo: BCWS Fire at Bearhole Lake on Friday. The Prince George Fire Center continues to respond to a fire about eight kilometers east of Bearhole Lake near the Kiskatinaw River in the Dawson Creek Zone. The fire, which was started by a lightning strike, is located about 30 kilometers east of the community of Tumbler Ridge and is classified as out of control at about 1,000 hectares. A crew and an officer from the BC Wildfire Service unit are on scene, supported by three helicopters. The fire is exhibiting aggressive fire behavior and additional growth is expected to the north and east of Bearhole Lake Park. There is now an area restriction around Bearhole Lake Park for the safety of the public. Warm and dry conditions are forecast and local winds are expected to remain strong with gusts of up to 50km/h. Thunderstorms are forecast to move into the area Sunday and Monday bringing with them strong winds and a chance for lightning with little to no precipitation. The public is urged to remain vigilant with the use of backcountry fires. Please stay away from active fire areas, especially given the potential for significant fire growth with forecasted weather over the weekend.
