She shared the knowledge as part of her series “Everything you need to know about a suitcase that comes from a luggage carrier.” Rachel said: “Every time you buy a suitcase, get a bag with four wheels for a few different reasons.” The first is to make sure your bag gets to its destination safely without being forced across the hold. Wheels can make the process of loading a piece of luggage much easier for baggage handlers who are often working to a very tight deadline. Rachel explained: “There are people who load your luggage onto the planes and some of the planes have really big bins and some airports don’t have a machine that will take all your luggage into the bin. Some of these planes have buckets that are 20 feet long. “Your bag has to start here and go all the way back…and the way it gets there is by rolling it, sliding it, or throwing it. “What I’m saying is if your bag has four wheels it will roll and if your bag has two wheels it will be thrown.” The baggage handler explained: “[When] you are traveling and you reach the ticket counter and you have so many things, you have to take out your boarding pass and ID, a four-wheeled bag will be left alone. “Moral of the story, a bag with four wheels will protect your bag and it’s easier and more convenient.” Rachel recommends choosing a hard-shell case, rather than a soft-shell suitcase, as this will protect the items inside. Passengers are also advised to be careful about the types of luggage they pack, as some fragile cargo could be damaged in transit if not adequately protected. Any delicate or fragile items should be wrapped in packing material or in your clothing to add an extra layer of support.
