The U.S. Border Patrol is warning immigrants trying to enter the U.S. illegally not to do so amid record temperatures and severe weather that have recently led to at least nine deaths. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agent General Jason Owens of the Del Rio Sector has issued an “extremely important warning” to those wanting to cross the US-Mexico border as crossing through the Rio Grande has become “more dangerous.” The warning comes as migrants continue to cross the Del Rio sector by the hundreds, he said. “The currents of the Rio Grande have become more dangerous due to the recent and continued rainfall, and more rainfall is forecast for next week,” Owens said. “Despite these adverse conditions, the US Border Patrol, Del Rio Sector continues to encounter more than 100+, 200+ people trying to cross the Rio Grande every day.” 9 IMMIGRANTS FOUND DEAD AT TEXAS BORDER, 53 ARRESTED TRYING TO CROSS RIO GRANDE The recent weather has caused at least nine deaths, and the Border Patrol is asking migrants to refrain from crossing “in an effort to prevent further loss of life.” On Saturday, CBP said a ninth person died when a large group of migrants tried to cross the Rio Grande earlier in the week. The announcement came after the bodies of eight migrants were found. Six were found by CBP agents while two were found by Mexican authorities. ADMIN BIDEN QUIETLY APPROVES US-MEXICO BORDER WALL CONSTRUCTION NEAR YUMA, ARIZONA Fifty-three migrants were detained by US authorities, including 37 migrants rescued from the water by Border Patrol agents. Mexican authorities also arrested 39 people in the same incident. In August, CBP said its agents had discovered the bodies of more than 200 immigrants in the Del Rio sector this fiscal year. CBP said it conducts more than 200,000 encounters each month with more than 500,000 immigrants slipping through immigration enforcement efforts this fiscal year.
