Carrie Earle A woman accused of stealing $1.8 million from her employer will go on trial next fall. In late 2018, Access Human Resources Inc. filed a lawsuit against her accountant, Carey Earl, alleging she stole more than $1 million from the company between 2005 and 2018. After a more thorough review of their finances, the company later claimed Earl’s alleged thefts actually amounted to 1.8 million dollars. The organization, which provides support services for people in Kelowna with different abilities, has been operating since 1993 and is primarily funded by the province. The company first discovered irregularities with its financial data on October 1, 2018. Earl ran her own accounting firm called CE Business Services. Access Resources alleges Earl and her family used the company’s money to buy homes in Kelowna, Lake Country and Anglemont, along with vehicles and two fifth-wheel trailers. In February of this year, the Crown filed criminal charges against Earle. The charges of fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000 allegedly occurred between October 2011 and October 2018 against Access Human Resources. Last week, Earl’s trial dates were set for next year. A jury will now decide her fate, with the BC Supreme Court trial starting in Kelowna on October 16, 2023. In response to the civil suit filed against her, Earl denied the allegations. The civil action remains ongoing. Most recently, Master Steven Schwartz ordered Earl July to provide a list of her property and assets to the court.
