Fire crews extinguished a suspicious garage fire on Kelowna’s Academy Way overnight. At approximately 12:30 a.m., Kelowna Fire Department firefighters responded to reports of smoke in the 300 block of Academy Way, just south of UBC Okanagan. “The first officer to arrive reported moderate smoke coming from the front of the building,” said Platoon Leader Micah Volk. “Crews entered the structure and extinguished a fire located in the garage.” The fire did not spread to the rest of the building. One person inside got out safely, uninjured. The fire was determined to be “suspicious in nature” and RCMP are now investigating. This was the second suspicious fire KFD crews responded to within 24 hours. They also extinguished a fire at a commercial building on Kirschner Street in the early hours of Saturday.
