The former president was sharing an anecdote about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg when he oddly suggested that the Meta CEO had attended a White House dinner as his guest “last week.” “Last week, weird — he’s weird — Mark Zuckerberg came to the White House, kissed my ass all night,” the president said. He then continued, mimicking Mr Zuckerberg: “Sir, I’d love to have dinner, sir. I’d love to have dinner. I’d love to bring my lovely wife.” All right, Mark, come on in. “Sir, you are number one on Facebook. I would like to congratulate you.” Thanks a lot, Mark. Appreciate”. The strange story appeared to recall Mr Trump’s memory of a 2019 White House dinner attended by Mr Zuckerberg and tech billionaire Peter Thiel, known for funding right-wing candidates. It is unclear why Mr Trump believed the dinner had taken place “last week” or whether Mr Zuckerberg was actually complimenting the president. The Independent has contacted Meta for comment. It’s even more surprising that the president suggested that Facebook’s CEO told him that he’s currently “number one” on the platform, given that he’s been blocked since early 2021. Mr Trump’s rally on Saturday was his first campaign rally since the FBI executed a search warrant for classified material at Mar-a-Lago last month. The weight of a serious and deeper criminal investigation on Mr Trump’s mind was evident at the rally as he lashed out at the FBI and the Biden administration, before denouncing the president as an “enemy of the people”. The FBI and Department of Homeland Security, meanwhile, have warned in recent weeks that the number of threats witnessed on social media against federal agents has skyrocketed since the Mar-a-Lago raid.
