John Proule, 20, of Lake Country, BC has been charged with second-degree murder, RCMP said in a statement Sunday. Police said a second suspect, who was also taken into custody Saturday, was released without charge because they determined he was not directly involved. Saturday’s homicide is the second in the mountain town in the past four weeks. RCMP said they responded to a 911 call that a man had been stabbed around midnight Saturday. It stemmed from an altercation outside the Dancing Sasquatch nightclub in the 100 block of Banff Avenue. When they arrived, police found an injured man from Foothills County, Alta. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. RCMP said they believe this incident is not related to another fatal fight that happened outside the same nightclub earlier in August that left a 26-year-old man dead. There have been two fatal fights on Banff Avenue in the past four weeks that police believe are unrelated. (Helen Pike/CBC) “Police recognize the concern the general public may have, due to the two recent violent incidents in Banff,” the RCMP wrote in a statement Saturday afternoon. “RCMP believe these are isolated incidents and there is no further concern for the safety and security of the public, including both Banff residents and visitors.”
