While chasing the first-place Yankees in the American League East, Toronto has a tenuous grip on the third AL Wild Card spot, with the division-rival Orioles in hot pursuit. Guerrero leads the team with 27 homers, followed by Matt Chapman, who has 24 in his first campaign with the Blue Jays. For Pittsburgh, rookie Cruz has been an eye-opener with 11 homers in 60 games. Cruz has some serious thunder in his bat: He recorded a single last week that was the hardest hit ball in the Statcast era. Play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti is joined on this week’s “MLB Sunday Leadoff” booth by analysts Kevin Barker (Blue Jays) and Bob Walk (Pirates). Benetti is joined in the booth each week by local analysts from the participating teams. Walk, who won a World Series title with the Phillies in 1980, pitched 10 of his 14 MLB seasons for Pittsburgh. Barker, a first baseman, played five seasons in the Majors, including with Toronto in 2006. NBC Sports’ Ahmed Fareed hosts the MLB Sunday Leadoff pregame and postgame shows each week and also serves as the in-game reporter. Three-time All-Star Sean Casey, who played for the Pirates in 2006, joins Fareed as this week’s pregame and postgame analyst. Rob Friedman, aka Pitching Ninja on Twitter (@PitchingNinja), joined the pregame show to provide pitching analysis. MLB Sunday Leadoff on Peacock debuted on May 8, kicking off an 18-week schedule of exclusive MLB contests every Sunday morning. The Peacock was also the exclusive home of the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
