Police believe Jeff German, 69, had an altercation with someone Friday that resulted in the stabbing, The Review-Journal reported. Dori Coren, a spokeswoman for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, told the newspaper that police had possible leads on a shooter. The motive was not immediately clear. The police department did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment Sunday. Glenn Cook, executive editor of The Review-Journal, told the newspaper that Mr. Germanos had not expressed concerns for his safety or threats against him. “There are no words for such a loss,” Mr Cook tweeted. Mr. Germanos’ career spanned more than three decades in the city, where he won numerous awards and broke stories about organized crime, casinos and political corruption. His colleagues expressed shock on Sunday and remembered him as a great reporter and friend. Keith Moyer, the publisher and editor of The Review-Journal, described Mr. German on Twitter as “a force to be reckoned with.” “I am still numb and deeply saddened this morning by the killing of our friend and colleague,” he wrote. Governor Steve Sisolak of Nevada said in a statement that Mr. German “was tough but fair and a great mentor to young journalists.”
